The holidays are the worse. And even tho you miss Bob so much and don't feel like being around people I think that would help you. Maybe volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter serving a meal? I found that giving to people in need took some time that I could not spend dwelling on my own loneliness.
I feel for you Diane and hope that some peace comes to you soon.

When I was getting a divorce it helped to be in a different environment with no reminders of the way it used to be.

Sorry you are going through such a difficult time. I know there is nothing I can really say or do to take away your pain, but just know that you are loved. I love you and care about you and you have many other friends who do, too.

I was thinking about you and your post all night. I can certainly give deep credence to that feeling. I'd say, "go with it!" Don't feel obligated to do anything that reminds you of Christmas. Take the holiday off. Make it a day to forget about the holiday, and do something opposite. Anything that creates that huge boulder of feeling bad sitting on your shoulders...toss it off. Turn around and go the other way. Read a funny book. Watch an old movie with lots of action.

And know that we are all supporting you.

After my stroke I quit doing Christmas. I just can't anymore, and I'm not going to beat myself up over it. The kids are grown; one kid is married and will spend this Christmas at his in-laws in Pennsylvania, the other kid is working (good old hospitality industry). So it will just be us and the cat, and we're fine with that. I'll get some little treats from Amazon, and we may go out for dinner. Easy, that's my theme.

I wish for you comfort and pleasant thoughts this holiday season, Diane.

I was going to make the same suggestion re: volunteering somewhere. It'd be a way to get out & about, help people, meet new people etc. But I get that it might not be an option... Hope you feel better soon!
