Bob's New Bathroom

The wainscot and tub skirt were made from old "hurricane shutters" found in the attic.

We are Here!

And living in a construction zone...

Amid boxes of stuff and I can't find freaking anything!

Our new ramp and porch (still waiting for a roof)
We moved in without the washer and dryer hooked up (yikes!) and with hot water and plumbing issues and electrical issues and I still have a dresser (with all my clothes in it!) and desk stuck in the garage, and painting that hasn't been completed (inside) and so many other things not finished, too numerous to mention ---  jeepers

But we are here! We made it! Not without a lot of tears and stress, but fortunately with the help of a few good friends (including my wonderful realtor) and two, rather disappointing, beer-drinking moving guys...  And don't even get me started on those beer-drinking moving guys who just tossed everything willy-nilly, broke my kitchen table and left a bunch of stuff at the old house which I had to go back and retrieve and didn't even bother to put Bob's hospital bed back together (not to mention left a trail of crushed beer cans in their wake)--- grrrr....

But we made it. And thank goodness for my realtor, Tiffany and her friend, and Jenny (Bob's former nurse) and her friend who helped! Couldn't have done it without them.

Bob made a triumphant entrance to his new house on his new power chair! YAHOO!

Things I'll Miss, Part 5

Our Fireplace

But I won't miss heating with wood ---

Tomorrow is moving day! (Wish us luck!) And I am already bone tired and exhausted and brain dead AND still have last minute packing to do. We now have a nurse coming daily for "wound care" for Bob's butt sore... BUT at least I didn't have to take him to the doctor.

Never a dull a moment here at the Pink House.

Things I'll Miss, Part 4

My Tabula Tree, Blooming in February

I planted this tree from a seed....

5 days until moving day! And now Bob has developed some weird sort of sore on his butt. I saw it and freaked and called for a home health nurse, thinking it was the beginnings of a pressure sore. Turns out, it's not, it's something else. And now the nurse wants me to take Bob to the doctor pronto! And I'm thinking, what? this week???? You've got to be kidding me.

Now I wish I'd never called for a nurse.

Packing up my office today and waiting to hear from the doctor's office.

Things I'll Miss, Part 3

The Phantom Shopkeeper

This mysterious building around the block is mostly vacant, though someone arrives daily and posts a sign reading (for example): "Today is Saturday, February 7th, 2015".

I have never seen this phantom shopkeeper who, I imagine, daily tends the empty shelves and ghostly customers....  though I sometimes see a lone light upstairs at night when I walk the dog...

Seven days to Moving Day!!!!!  GA! And I'm still packing....

Things I'll Miss, Part 2

The Trailer Park of Broken Dreams

This nearly deserted trailer park, a block and half away, is a quiet, hauntingly reflective place to walk Boomer in the early morning gloom.  I love the twisting streets and the old, abandoned trailers, some which are pretty cool in a quirky retro way. One wonders who lived here, what hopes and dreams they had, and what happened to them...

Things I'll Miss...

Ten days until moving day!!! Which is also Valentine's Day. And I am in the middle of packing and rushing around getting things together for the new house. I tell you, it's bittersweet to leave this home of 11 years and even to leave the neighborhood with its quirks and quaintness.  I thought I'd post a few of things I will certainly miss after we move, starting with this one.

The Corner Convenience Store

For its convenience, nice cashiers, but NOT its prices.

Chaos!

So Happy February! The month of the big move and it starts with a BANG!

The oh-so-nice-guy buyer of our house who "totally understands" that we may not be able to move right away as our new house is under renovation and Bob cannot be moved into a motel room, etc. -- suddenly changes his mind and wants (no, DEMANDS to) to take possession of our house on Feb. 16th because he has already leased our house to somebody beginning on March 1.

This when I was planning on moving maybe around the Feb. 26th.

Of course, I flipped when I heard this news. Because the new house seems nowhere near done and I am nowhere near packed and I certainly can't get out of here this fast with a paralyzed guy on my hands!

My poor realtor, bless her soul, got an earful, I tell you.

And phone calls flying back and forth, between realtors and me and our contractor, but yesterday, a "deal" was reached with our contractor swearing the inside of the house will be ready on the 13th (though they may be still working outside) so we can move in that weekend of the 14th-15th, and my realtor (bless her soul again!) will help me with some packing and (double bless her soul!!) she's actually hiring and paying for a moving company to move us on that weekend so we'll get over there quick.

So the countdown begins.
