May 28th -- Bob's "Memorial Celebration"

I did have friends over on the 28th, spent some time poolside, made one of Bob's favorite dishes for dinner, and we ate picnic style in the backyard. We also "smoked" cigarettes (those who don't smoke "smoked" candy cigarettes) and took a shot of Vodka in his honor and I demonstrated Bob's version of a Tarot Card reading which he called "Bob's Happy Tarot" (he would take all the "bad" cards out of the deck to do "his" readings and he would do them with a very funny accent which I tried my best to imitate, his readings were always hilarious.) And I also showed my friends our wedding video and the party video with Bob and I dancing.

It was a good time (we laughed and cried) and though I was nervous at the beginning, everything went very well. I was glad to finally do something in his honor, as I never had a funeral/wake or real service or even an obit in the paper as I was so shocked, and alone, when he died, and it was just me, Chris and one beloved home health nurse at his cremation  -- So this was a "Celebration" of his life, a little late.  And although most of the women who came are from my widows group and never met Bob, they said they really felt like they knew him by the end of the day.

Here are some pics:

Meanwhile, I had my first EMRD therapy session last week, and will have my second tomorrow -- it was very emotionally and physically draining and found I could not even blog about it --- but feel I need to go on and try it again..... stay tuned...

Diane, sometimes I read and then delete, without comments, because I have no words.

Tonight is different. Tonight, your words tell a different, almost more difficult story. I applaud and admire you.

I am glad to hear about the EMDR. I know from experience it works.

Hugs,

Stephany in Iowa

Hello Diane, happy to hear you had a great dinner party. I wish you the best with your new treatment, hang in there and give it a chance. There are different treatments because what works for one may not work for all, but keep on keeping on and remember - time is your friend. thanks for the update and the pics..... love and prayers..... Vin :-)

Hi Diane,
It's been a while since I've commented, but I read every one of your posts. I laugh, cry, and just soak up your words and pics. I also often think how strong you are...And I'm not sure you really see it. But I do.
Thank you for continuing your blog..we wish you all the best with your EMDR treatments. I'm interested to see how it all goes for you.
On our home front, it's been 2 years, 4 months, 3 days since my hubby had the stroke. I just can't call it "his" stroke because he certainly never asked for it, and we both wish like hades he'd never had it. Much like Bob's story, the medical personnel did not listen in our case either...until it was 30+ hours too late for tPA treatment.

Your blog was 1 of the first things I happened upon soon after hearing, "Er...you were right, it seems your husband HAS had a stroke...". I spent my "free" (lol) time reading Bob's and your story. I know sometimes you muse if anyone is still reading your posts...yes, we are...yes we will continue to do so.
Regards,
Kan and David
